I’ve Opened a 24 Hour Fitness…
So, home sweet home – back at Sooch! Yesterday was a long but great day of driving. Everyone keeps assuming that I hate the drive but I really and truly love it! I felt like a dog with my head out the window. It was the perfect day and with the windows down and driving through towns that were blaring Hindi music, continual whiffs of fresh samosas, children screaming while playing tag- Yes, I’ll take that… even it if is a VERY bouncy 5 hours.
Yesterday was a pretty simple day. After arriving back at Sooch…(home) I immediately changed clothes and ran to the chapati hut. (You will have to excuse me- I’ve spelled “Chipati” wrong this entire time.) Anyway, I rolled another 150 balls of dough. I learned how to say “big” and “small”- apparently my chapati dough balls were a bit “badaa ” (big). Woops. I’m still a novice.
Any who- I spent the remainder or the smoky experience trying to explain that I want to learn a Hindi song. They translated the song part and started to sing- but not so much the latter- I’m going to work again tonight in explaining I actually want to learn it. I might bring my iPod soon and play a little Michael Jackson. (They like him around here.) Nothing better than rolling chapati dough while jamming to Thriller.
Today has been a day of catch up. I woke up a bit later than usual (6:30) and started cleaning my room a bit. I haven’t really unpacked…. As I went downstairs to grab some cookies and coffee (yes, be jealous) – I heard little voices around the side of the building. I snuck around and saw all the children in the middle of their yoga session. “1-2-3-4-5- 6 - 6-5-4-3-2-1…” It was pretty cute. Watching the little ones trying to meditate to their whole 2 year old potential was especially good. I got a few videos and pictures. Will post some soon. (I’m behind, I know.)
SO EXCITING NEWS! Last night I was on a mission to find a place to use my jump rope. Wanting to get in a little physical activity, minus running after little kids, I snuck around my building to find a way to get up to the roof. I fouuunnndddd it! A HUGE roof- perfect. (Don’t freak out. The roofs here are flat and they use them to do laundry and bring the babies out on blankets for sun. Perfectly suitable for exercise. No tile roofs here…) I call it my own personal 24 Hour Fitness. I grabbed my jump rope and my stretchy band and headed up. Oh my word- not only did I realize how terrible of a jump roper I am, but I realized you can never go wrong with a little physical activity. Some creativity later, I was doing lunges with a brick I found on a wall. So, watch out American bodybuilders, watch out.
The remainder of the morning I played with the children, played a new baseball game and learned that kids like taking pictures of the sun. I try to avoid it so we can keep our sight for as long as possible. Since it is Sunday they have been playing most of the day. It is fun to see them have fun with each other.
This afternoon I’ve been trying to organize all my videos and picture of Rourkela to send back to Austin, TX. I’m a nerd- organization is a huge high. Cleaning my room, organizing my pictures and organizing my videos- I feel like a whole new person!
Speaking of which- I have finally figured out my shower situation. I don’t think I’ve explained but there is a shower head and two faucets in the “shower.” One hot (really hot) and one cold. The showerhead spits out a fair amount of water but in all directions but down. So, not really usable. I’ve been trying to hover under the faucets but the water is far too hot to actually use directly. SO! I found a huge bucket. Filled it up with the scalding water….added a bit of cold water and wala! Bucket baths will be my new thing. My hair is super clean and I’ve even got a little bit of a sun today. I’m feelin good!
Well that is it from Sooch. Tomorrow is Monday and a start to more work here at Sooch. Hope you are all doing well. Keep the emails coming! (For those of you who have been here or who have friends that are sponsors- shoot me an email if you want personalized emails of your kiddos.)
MUCH Love from India!
Katelyn
